AUTHOR'S BIOGRAPHY

Seldom, if ever before, has such an intimate and personal story been written about the victim of a brutal, horrific murder. Facts, such as those expounded in detail in this book could only be provided by the family of the victim --not by researching police reports. This murder captured the hearts of people all over the world and it was televised locally, nationally, and internationally. Inside Edition and Unsolved Mysteries are two of the major programs in the United States and RTL (Radio/Television Luxembourg) carried its version of the story in Europe. RTL conducted its own interviews with the family in San Antonio, Texas as opposed to using network feeds.

This story was also in the newspapers, radio, and television on a daily basis for more than three months and it remained highly visible for the next several years. Although it has not been to trial, it is the fervent hope of the parents that the suspected murderer faces a jury of his peers in a court of law before many more years go by.

William “Bill” McKinney was born and raised in Lorain, Ohio. In 1949 he joined the United States Army and was stationed all over the United States, Europe, and the Far East, serving in Vietnam in 1966 with the First Infantry Division. His military decorations include the Bronze Star, Air Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal (third award). During his military service, McKinney rose through all the enlisted grades, was then appointed a technical Warrant Officer, and subsequently served as a Commissioned Officer until his retirement from the military in 1969.

After his military service Bill was employed by Informatics Inc.; Bunker-Ramo Corp.; Planning Research Corp.; Kentron International (LTV); Datapoint Corp.; the University of Dayton (Ohio) Research Institute; and finally, the United States government, as a federal civil service employee with the US Air Force. McKinney worked primarily in communications and computer systems until his retirement from the work force in 1994. Since then he has enjoyed civilian life, participating in bowling, golfing, and duplicate bridge. McKinney has lived in San Antonio, Texas, for the past 38 years with Monika, his wife of 56 years. McKinney passionately believes that his story must be told, and no one is more qualified than he to write the absolute facts. This book has been extremely difficult for him to write, both emotionally and practically, but he owes his daughter this memorial.
